Wolves defeated by Old Boys!
20.07.08
On Saturday the Wolves took on the Old Boys in a clash between the best of today vs the best of yester year. On this hot and electric day the Old Boys were out to make amends for last years defeat. The Old Boys shad amassed a powerful squad that included many former Wolves Superstars. Against such firepower the Current Wolves team put up a brave performance (themselves missing several experienced players) but couldn’t come away with another win. The Old Boys won 18-6.

Warwick beat Oxford 7 - 6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
17-2-08
In a game that will live long in the of many Warwick fans, the wolves came from behind to clinch this nail bite. The Wolves went down 6-0 in the first half after a long drive from Oxford resulted in a touch down. Oxford may have been overly confident as they tried to score two extra points rather the usual one. Warwick’s defence stood firm and prevent the Cavaliers putting anymore points on the board. This decision was to be catastrophic for the Cavaliers.
Late in the game Wolves’ running back Duncan Palmer made a 61 yard run to score. This levelled the game 6-6. Palmer then stepped up again, this time to kick the extra point which took Warwick ahead.
If was then left to the Wolves’ defence to secure the victory. Oxford forced their way down field and close to the Wolves’ end zone. Cornerback, James St John was the hero for the Wolves; he caught an interception which meant that the Wolves would go on to win the game.
Final score 7-6 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wolves beat Aber 18-0!!!!!
10-2-08
Aberystwyth travelled to Warwick on Sunday for their second match of the season. On a beautiful clear day, nothing like the first time the two teams met, Warwick were confident that they would come away with their first win of the season.
Aberystwyth kicked off to start the match. Initially both teams had unsuccessful drives but then Warwick was able to get into their stride. After a long drive down the field, Wolves captain Andy Cole made a 12 yard run into the end zone to score the first points of the game. Quarterback Adam Spencer was unlucky not to get the two extra points, but a holding penalty meant that Warwick came away 6-0 up.
In the second quarter Duncan Palmer was able to cap off another good drive when he scored off a run play from five yards out. It capped off a great game for Palmer who rushed for over 70 yards and injured 3 Aber players.
Warwick were able to solidify their victory with a touch down worthy of the NFL. Quarterback Adam Spencer lofted a beautiful spiralling pass to rookie wide receiver Anthony Prigg, who was running a fly down the pitch. The pass hit Prigg in full stride and allowed him to outrun the pursuing CB. It was measured as a 51yard pass and was surely the highlight of the game.
The Warwick defence managed a shutout to complete this perfect day for the Wolves. The Warwick D-line was imperious and caused all sorts of problems for the Aber offence. Chris Holtham, Jon Dwyer, Michael Sinyangwe and Michael Van Harten should all get praise for their outstanding performances.
Warwick plays Oxford this weekend in the final game of the season.
Birmingham vs Warwick
2-2-08
The Birmingham Lions made there way to Warwick on Saturday to do battle for the second time this season. The last time the two teams met it ended with a resounding victory for the Brummies. Warwick was hoping for an improved performance this time round.
To the shock of many, but not Warwick, the wolves scored first on their opening drive of the game. Running back Andy Cole completed the drive by forcing his way into the end zone, in doing so scored the first touch down for the Wolves this season. RB Duncan Palmer converted the 2 point.
Unfortunately for the Wolves they couldn’t keep up this tempo. The wolves defence let in a touch down on the ensuing Birmingham possession and after that the Wolves struggled to contain the Lions powerful offence. Birmingham was able to score several more touch downs through the course of the game.
It was a pleasing showing for the Wolves offence who up till now had shown few signs of life. After being out injured for the first half of the season QB Adam Spencer added greater direction and purpose to the whole offence. The OL continues to perform well for such a young unit and the running back team of Andy Cole and Duncan Palmer looks to be gelling.
The Final Score was 48-8 and the Wolves go into their match next week against Aber with greater confidence.

27-1-08

Fortunately that game has been rescheduled for Sunday 27th January. The fixture list on the on the Wolves website has now been update.
Warwick can’t get revenge against Oxford
2-12-07
On a cold clear Sunday, Oxford travelled to Warwick to play the second of their three scheduled matches this season. On a day that turned out to have good weather for football, also turned out to be a good day for Oxford.
Oxford started the first half with an aggressive passing game. Playing out of a spread formation, Oxford was looking to throw the ball deep and put the Warwick secondary under pressure. After initially stifling Oxford’s progress errors began to creep into the Wolves game. On a number of long passes Oxford receivers were able to out jump Warwick cornerbacks resulting in big gains. Oxford was able to score two of their TDs this way. Oxford’s third TD came from a short running play; the running back getting outside of the Wolves’ defence and scoring in the corner.
Warwick’s offence continued to struggle moving the ball consistently. Promising plays were then undermined by a lack of clinical finishing. Andy Cole and Chris Hobbs were the primary running threats. They ran hard, with great determination and deserve greater reward for their efforts.
HT 21-0
In the second half Warwick were able to sure up their defence and stopped the progress Oxford were making in the first half. Oxford found it harder to move the ball and Warwick achieved a second half shutout. Karim Bouzerda should be mentioned for this excellent pass coverage throughout the game.
While the Warwick defence held firm during the second half unfortunately so did the Oxford D. Warwick’s problems continued behind the ball and they were not able to put the points on the board to get them back in the game.
Final score 21-0
Wolves lose a close one to Aber!!
18-11-07
Aber 6 - War 2
On a cold wet and miserable Sunday, Warwick and Aberystwyth travelled to Redditch. Both teams were looking for their first victory of the season, neither liking the prospect of sitting at the bottom of the central division table.
QB Chris Hobbs drove the Warwick offence down field on the first drive of the game. It was one of the few times during the match that the passing game came off for either team. The Wolves were unable to convert on this promising play, but it did mean that Aberystwyth started their possession on their own goal line. LB Matt Lockwood and DT Jon Dwyer broke through the Aberystwyth O-line to sack the QB and score a safety. It was Warwick’s first points of the season!
After this initial breakthrough Warwick were keen to force the pace of the game. However in difficult conditions they forced one too many throws. While in their half of the field, Warwick threw an interception that would be returned for a TD. It was Aberystwyth only points of the half. HT 6-2
The second half was a battle of attrition. Both teams employing the run as throwing the ball became more difficult in the bad weather. Both teams’ offences threatened to score at various times but the defences held firm.
It was a tough, bruising encounter of American football played by two very evenly matched teams. The final score was 6-2 for Aberystwyth.
Warwick wont have long to wait for revenge. Next week they travel to Wales in the second of this series of games.
Wolves Implode at Xpolsion
10/11/07
The Wolves and the Lions clashed on Saturday night at Birmingham’s annual showpiece event, Xplosion. Thousands of Birmingham fans turned out to watch would ultimately become a very one sided match.
Birmingham kicked off to Warwick to start what would turn out to be a night to forget for the Wolves. The story of the game was a comedy of fundamental errors that would continually put Warwick on the back foot. Stray passes, fumbles and missed tackles crept into Warwick’s game meaning that they were always chasing Birmingham.
The Warwick Defence was startled at the pace with which Birmingham began the game. Three TDs were scored in the first quarter leaving Warwick feeling shocked. After this initial blitz the Warwick defence shored up their game and put up a more assured performance for the rest of the match. The Birmingham offence still managed two further TDs in the game, but was generally made to work much harder for them.
Warwick’s offence on the other hand was never quite able to click. Up against a strong Lions’ defence the Wolves put together a number of slick moves but errors and mistakes meant that they turned over the ball too frequently. This meant that Warwick were unable to move the ball down field consistently and put pressure on Birmingham. Honourable mentions should go to first year QB Kenny Stott and the O-line who preformed admirably throughout the game.
At the end of the first half the score was 29-0 and by the end of the game 49-0.
Warwick goes away from the game now having to regroup and fix the problems that dogged them against Birmingham.
Changes in the Schedule for the Wolves!!
1-11-07
More changes have been made to the Wolves fixture schedule for 2008. When the Gloucestershire Gladiators pulled out of the league a couple of weeks a go it left the Wolves with two less fixtures in their season. It also looked like the Wolves would be starting the season with a 2-0 record as the games that Gloucestershire pulled out of would be awarded to Warwick.
Now BUAFL have revised this decision and scheduled the Wolves to play two extra games. Both games will be played against division rivals, Oxford and Aberystwyth. The rearranged games will be played at neutral venues. This means that the Wolves will now play three games against each of these sides during the season.
The new schedule also includes a rearranged fixture against the Birmingham Lions. This game had originally been set after Warwick had broken up for the Christmas Holidays. The game has been moved to 10th November.
The complete revised fixture list can be viewed by clicking Here.
Wolves Put up tough fight but can’t get past Oxford
4-11-07
Oxford 19 - Warwick 0
The Wolves kicked off their season on Sunday with an away fixture at Oxford. New Head Coach, Errol Wilson’s team faced a tough challenge as they travelled to the unfamiliar surroundings of historic Oxford and faced a well drilled seasoned Cavalier side. The fixture had been dominated by Warwick last year, but Oxford was reported to be looking for revenge.
Warwick’s huge squad arrived early at the ground and set about making their presence felt, accustomising themselves to the different surroundings and slowly warming up. This was the first time that a number of the Warwick players had been at an American Football match so match nerves and anticipation were running high. HC Wilson worked hard to prevent his team’s energy reaching fever pitch before the game had even begun!
Oxford kicked to Warwick to start the game. The first half will be remembered as an attritional affair. Although both sides shared possession, the defences dominated and even though the ball was moved well at times, slack finishing and possible off-season rustiness prevented either team from converting possession into points. Highlights were few and far between. A notable exception was Darrel Lamsdale (who had an overall good game). He made his first interception from his first start as Free Safety. The interception was not only his first as a Safety but also came when Oxford was threatening to score. HT 0-0
Going into the third quarter, there was no change to the score. Oxford tried to force the pace by playing a more expansive game coming out in a spread formation but Warwick, dealt with the new threat well. Oxford’s break came right at the end of the quarter (when a Warwick punt was charged down). They started the final quarter with excellent field position.
However, although they scored from the resulting drive, they were unable to convert on the extra point. Warwick, still sniffing a chance with 13min to go, drove their way down field.
From the subsequent kick off, Chris Hobbs led the charge with a storming run deep into Oxford territory. Then Wilson threw caution to the wind and employed a more expansive attacking game of his own. Again Warwick made inroads but a lack of clinical finishing prevented them from delivering the final blow and the drive stuttered.
Obviously uplifted by going into the lead, Oxford came back hard. Mistakes crept into Warwick’s game. Two more TDs were given away. But Warwick’s offence pushed on relentlessly. Unfortunately, however, this time, promising play could not be converted into points.
Final score 19-0
After the game HC Wilson and Defensive Coordinator Daniel Jacobs both praised the efforts of Warwick’s offensive line. The O-line who had looked shaky in training was able to raise their game for the big day and came away with a commendable performance.
Warwick now go into their game with the Birmingham Lions confident that they can iron out minor mistakes and that any of the match rustiness that was present in Oxford is now gone.

Wolves Start Season 2-0
17/10/07
On the 16 Oct the Gloucestershire Gladiators announced that they had pulled out of BUAFL this year.
Andy Fuller, BUAFL Chief executive, announced the news yesterday and expressed his regret that the Gladiators wouldn’t be taking part in this year’s competition. He hoped that the club would become Associated Members of the league and that they would rejoin as full members sometime in the near future.
It is believed that this summer’s torrential rains have had a devastating impact on the preparations of the team and their playing facilities.
The Warwick Wolves thus find themselves starting the season 2-0. Warwick was scheduled to play the Gladiators twice this season. Both fixtures have now been awarded to the Wolves by default.
Now that Warwick finds itself with fewer games for the season it looks like their league game against Birmingham will be rescheduled to an earlier date and that other friendly matches will be arranged

22.09.2007
Following a complex and extended series of off season events, the Warwick Wolves have joined the newly formed British Universities American Football League (B.U.A.F.L.).
Entrance into this newly established league places the Wolves in the South Central Division to challenge their traditional rivals of the Oxford Cavaliers, Birmingham Lions, and Tarannau Aberystwyth, and will also face Glouster in their innaugral season. The new schedule can be found in the TEAM section of the website.
Even More New Coaches Announced
10.09.2007
The Wolves continue to retool their coaching staff for the 2007/ 2008 season. Steve Coles, without question one of the toughest and most consistent tail backs in the UK, returns to the Wolves staff to continue to oversee the running game. Dan Jones, a young but dedicated and hard working player, has been hand picked to manage the Wolves Special Teams unit.
In addition, a plethora of others have seen the potential that this years players possess and have agreed to assist the core of Wolves coaches whenever they possibly can. These valued assistants include Andy Mortimer, Neil Solomon, Richard Smith, Adam Savage, Russell Moray, and Ian Lankin. The participation of these assistants, and others still to be mentioned, will be invaluable to player development during this coming season.
Never before have the Wolves been able to boast such an able coaching staff and hopes are high that this new staff will reenergize a Wolves team that has waned in recent years. However, the Wolves will need strong recruitment class to match the coaching recruitment that continues to take place. The Wolves are always on the lookout for eager players attending schools in the Warwick area and these efforts will only intensify as the start of the academic year draws closer. As always, the Wolves encourage any interested players or coaches to contact us though email or through the Wolves forum, both can be found in the CONNECT section of the website.
New Linebackers Coach Announced
04.09.2007
With Dan Jacobs already signed on as defensive coordinator, the Wolves defense has received a further boost with the addition of Jim Mortimer as the new linebackers coach. Coach Mortimer is currently a stand out linebacker on the Redditch Arrows defense, currently the leading defense in Division 1 football, and has been praised for the aggressive speeds at which he plays the position. His playing experience and enthusiasm is expected to shine through in his coaching technique and we are excited to watch what Coach Mortimer will be able to accomplish with an already stable core of Wolves linebackers.
New Defensive Coordinator Announced
31.08.2007
The Wolves are pleased to officially announce the commitment of their new defensive coordinator, Dan "Becks" Jacobs. Coach Jacobs is a former member of the Wolves and has extensive playing experience on both the offensive and defensive lines. His commitment to the Wolves is unquestionable as he acted as club president during the 2006/ 2007 while working towards his PhD in engineering. Coach Jacobs has already begun to put his high IQ to work devising a dynamic and effective defensive scheme for this seasons Wolves to execute. Although many of the Wolves defenisve stars have graduated away, Coach Jacobs is confident that the new Wolves defnese will be more than up to the challenge.
Coach Jacobs will also be responsible for the development of the offensive and defensive linemen, the other area that has been depleted after last season. Many of the current Wolves have already stepped up to the challenge and have announced their willingness to play in the trenches if necesary, but the Wolves would prefer to fill these positions with new blood and are constantly on the lookout at the Universtiy of Warwick and Coventry University for new and eager players.
